(EXPIRED) Bulldog Alert: Bomb Threat at Poland Seminary High School

UPDATE at 9/20/2022 11:20 a.m. : At this time, this Bulldog Alert has expired. The Poland Seminary High School facility is secure and has returned to normal operations with support of local authorities.

Adjustments were made to the schedule to ensure lunch periods were prioritized and a normal school dismissal will occur at the end of the day.


SUMMARY (Posted 9/20/2022 6:00 p.m.)

Dear Bulldog Families,

On Tuesday September 20, 2022 between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., Poland Local School District became aware of a threatening email message regarding a potential bomb in Poland Seminary High School at 3199 Dobbins Road, Poland, Ohio.

Authorities were contacted immediately and responded to the threat. In the name of safety and required by law, all building constituents were safely evacuated from the building. The evacuation brought students to the evacuation point. Students organized into sections by grades, and staff began performing attendance procedures.

A district email, website article, and social media posts reporting the Bulldog Alert was sent at 9:19 a.m. once students were safely evacuated.

After evacuation was complete, the following authorities assumed control of the 3199 Dobbins Road facility to begin their investigation: 

  • Poland Township Police

  • Poland Village Police

  • F.B.I.

  • Western Reserve Fire Department

  • Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office

  • Akron Children’s Hospital Police

  • Youngstown Bomb Squad

  • Critical Response Team Paramedics

Poland Local Schools must abide by procedures set forth by authorities and await for clearance before resuming operations of the building. Without clearance from authorities, Poland Local Schools cannot provide further updates regarding the building during investigation.

In the meantime, restroom/water fountain breaks, announcements to students, and emergency planning/protocol were occurring at the evacuation point.

Around 11:15 a.m, civil authorities determined Poland Seminary High School was safe to return to normal operations, and Poland Local Schools resumed authority over PSHS. Assisted by staff members under protocol, the building returned to normal operations.

A district email, text, website post, and social media posts reporting the Bulldog alert expired was sent at 11:20 a.m. once reentry was completed.

Mr. Snyder, Mr. Daley and Poland Local Schools extend their utmost gratitude to all the authorities listed above for their commitment to our community. Their bravery and dedication is appreciated. We also thank our Poland Local Schools staff, administrators, and students for their cooperation in emergency procedures.

On Tuesday, September 20 between 8:00-9:00 a.m., Poland Seminary High School received a threatening e-mail message regarding a potential bomb in the 3199 Dobbins Road facility.

Authorities were contacted immediately and responded to the threat. In the name of safety and required by law, building constituents were safely evacuated from the building.

Authorities will continue the investigation to determine a source of the threat. At this time, students will be held safely under supervision of Poland Police and PLSD Administrators. We anticipate a safe return to normal operations by 9:30 a.m.
